Too Hard.

Recently I have noticed that some words are getting a little overuse. One little word in particular in fact. If we catch ourselves with these negative words, we can change our mind sets. Changing the way we use our words on a daily basis could lead to big life shifts and generally a brighter perspective or disposition over time. Now doesn’t that sound wonderful? Stay with me here…

Now icy poles are one exception to the rule…These are always better hard. Okay maybe there are a few exceptions!

One word I find myself repeating quite often is hard. And not in the best use of the word, I know where you think this is going. But stop, pull up, crank the handbrake! I mean it can just be too hard. That’s hard. This is hard. Relationships are hard. Working 5 days in a row is hard. Getting up early for a run is hard. Hard hard hard. What is this hard bullshit?? Why so hard? We need to soften, be more malleable, more easy, less hard.

Define hard? Hard could mean difficult, challenging, impossible (nothing is impossible btw), to be inflexible, stiff, resistant, anti-fill in the blank, unyielding and impenetrable. Well I definitely do not like the sound of the last one…but really it all sounds quite bad doesn’t it? Saying things are hard, really does not get us anywhere. It takes us to a place of impossible, a futile bleak land of mope and overwhelm and negativity. No one likes it there let’s be honest. Land of ‘too hard’ is not pleasant at all.

Once I noticed I was repeating this word on a daily basis, I found it quite h… challenging to change the use of this word. Not saying hard is quite ha.., see what I mean? So now quite consciously I am working on pulling myself up on this too hard bizo, aka negative language. Hard has to become soft, has to become more flexible, more open, more possible and more ‘I can do anything!’ Nothing is too hard in this world really, it is all just a mind set shift, and a slight word adjustment. Easy! Not hard!

Do you find yourself repeating this word too much too? Try and catch yourself and shift your language up a gear. Make things easy! Changing our words can change our lives. Now that is a good reason to think about our daily use of words right?

Can you relate? Have a think about how many times you use the word hard over the coming days and see if you can pull yourself up on it. Nothing is too hard in life really. It is all about attitude! Boom!

  1. Funnily enough, I use the word “challenging” too much and here you are using it as a synonym for your overused word. For me, challenging has become that “go to” neutral word for when things are hard, tough, depressing, aggravating, infuriating…. I’m juggling a lot of challenges right now. I need to remember that challenges can be overcome.
