May Meanderings

May has brought beautiful autumn weather here in Perth. The air is crisp, the sky is blue and everything is turning an emerald shade of green from all the rain. We are so lucky here in Perth, it is a very easy city to live in. I have been cycling to work most days and enjoying the mindfulness along the way, birds tweeting, new flowers blooming and changing morning skies. A great way to kick start the day with a little bit of movement too.

I have been reading a really interesting book recently called “Stories my Grandmothers didn’t tell me” by Andra Putnis, and it has been tweaking my heart strings. Many of these stories are so similar to the ones my Dad told me. He was a post war migrant from Riga, Latvia and came out with his Mum on a boat in early 1950. It is so interesting to read such similar stories of early life here in Australia and their hardship battles out of Latvia. For all descendants of the Baltic states I would highly recommend this read. It has been inspiring more travels back to Latvia, to eat the good food, explore the countryside and reconnect to my roots once again. I do have a Latvian passport so it is easy for me to travel there. Just time and money!

I have been pumping out the art work lately which has been very fun. I have some new metallic watercolour paints and have been using those most days. I post a lot to instagram daily, mostly to keep myself accountable to keep creating. If others find joy from my work then bonus!

3 days later…

It’s been a busy week! Catching up with friends for dinner and drinks and generally having a good time. I try to jam in as much as I can every day and I have certainly done that this week. I discovered my all time favourite Katlenburger strawberry Champagne again in a wild corner motel hotel in Fremantle recently, definite highlight! This is a special drink I would share with my Mum at Christmas time and I have not been able to find it in years, so that was a win. We were also drinking their Mango wine which was just so easy to drink, sweet and delicate.

Last night I went for a delicious Indian meal with some friends at a restaurant nearby called A2B. We had a delicious light and tasty entree, with so much flavour, little balls of joy I called them! Light shells with yoghurt inside and some light sweet salad mix, I can’t even describe it, it was so unique. And then for the mains we had a light and crispy dosa with a variety of yummy dipping sauces. So good! I will be back for sure. I do love Indian food! And to share it with friends is even better.

This weekend I am planning to play tennis, relax, create some art, start my new mosaic totem poles and visit some friends too. I am hoping to start a new routine of Sunday roast dinners at local pubs. And then rate the best ones! Sounds like a good plan to me!

Here is my latest poem:

Resonance:

Good vibrations reverberating in calming rhythms,

The mmm of music and ultimate tonal perfection.

Vibrato control and amplification of energy in pitch and sound to be so profound.

I seek this pleasure.

Hope you have enjoyed my short and sweet blog for the week, it has been good to get back to writing again and into the rhythm of writing. What did you think of my poem this week? And key words you would like me to write a poem about next?

All images are inspiring images from Pinterest. So many talented people out there!

Thank you, Anita xx
