Dwellingyup weekend with my bestie.

Dwellingyup weekend with my bestie.

I love weekends away. And it’s so great to have good female friends to do all the fun things with! I have a great boyfriend too, but he works away a lot, so rather than letting that stop me, I am quick to invite my good friend to come and join me on my adventures.

Last weekend we packed up the car and headed off Friday afternoon. I love getting into the bush, forest bathing, going barefoot and fully immersing myself in nature. It is so restorative! I made a decision to switch my phone off for 2 days too, and this was a great choice. I did not miss it one bit! Time off from our busy lives is essential I think. We are all rushing around like mad, running around in circles, achieving what? Relentless pursuit of freedom. But it never comes! Unless we consciously choose to say no, make time and space to quieten down and find some down time.

I really enjoy camping in the bush. I love the simplicity of it all. I have a pop up tent which ejects itself in 2 seconds flat! More of a palaver to pull it down, but with two people I have almost mastered the technique. The weekend was spent taking long walks, swimming in water holes, nature spotting, playing games and resting. We saw many pretty birds, blue wrens and smaller finches with yellow bellies, and hearing the bird song of cockatoos high in the trees was constant. Our camp spot was surrounded by tall trees, and an idyllic stream, with green ferns and pops of purple flowers, so pretty. I have stayed in the same spot numerous times now so it all feels very familiar to me.

On the second day we wandered around town to all the shops, buying a few random things. We had lunch at a vegetarian cafe, where they had some live music and beautiful fresh bouquets of flowers on the table, so pretty. In the afternoon we discovered a local farm where we could pick fresh raspberries! Quite tricky picking among the spiky vines, but well rewarded.

The last day we decided to head towards Pinjarra, to go to a Ranger Red’s zoo, a wildlife and bird park. We were pleasantly surprised by the huge array of birds and animals there. Lots of unique little animals and lots of colourful birds, even peacocks! We were able to feed the animals too, which was fun. After we made our way into town for some lunch at the local bakery before driving back towards Perth.

Our final stop was a swim at Serpentine Falls. The water was fresh and rejuvenating, as we swam across to the cascading waterfall. Basking in the sun like lizards, half in and half out of the water, I felt relaxed and completely absorbed in my natural environment. After a good swim and explore we were ready to make our way back to Perth. Fully satisfied that we had made the most of the weekend. I do love a weekend getaway, and Perth is great that there are so many destinations within 2 or 3 hours. Until next weekend when I am heading to Dunsborough!

Where are your favourite weekend spots in WA?
