My last day on my Epic World Trip: The end was looming.

This was the view from across the bay on my day trip.

My last day in Istanbul was upon me, finally! It had been a long 9 weeks of touring the globe and I was ready to go home. I still had one more day to explore though and I was determined to make the most of it.

After a light breakfast I decided to take the ferry across to an Island across the bay from Istanbul city. I was feeling like a swim in the salty sea and some sun and relax time before I headed home to winter in Perth.
My ferry ride was about an hour long, and I ended up sitting next to a lovely lady who was an Art Historian. She loved Istanbul and had been coming back to visit for 30 years. She was very easy to talk to, and we slipped into deep conversation mode quickly which was enjoyable. She was also all about pursuing her passions, and she loved working in the arts and learning about history. The Ottoman Empire was her particular favourite in time.
I was pleased to see lots of bright pink/purple boganvillea. This plant grows everywhere in Australia too, it made me feel a little bit at home.

We soon arrived to my chosen destination. It was nice to be out of the hustle and bustle for a few hours. I made my way to the end of the street towards a beach, and secured myself a sun chair. Planting myself for a few hours, I drifted in and out of sleep, read my book, admired the sea, and dunked in and out of the cool refreshing water. The ocean was not the cleanest, but it was still salt water and very rejuvenating on another hot and humid day.
After my swim and tanning session, I took a walk along the seaside, admiring the passersby, old men playing backgammon, old ladies in bathers nattering away, young kids playing, old dogs sleeping and a few cats slinking from here to there. I snapped away happily capturing some good images, feeling happy.
The view from my beach chair were I chillaxed for the day, caught some sun and had a refreshing swim. Oh life of a traveller is so good.

I found a little bakery that made borek to my delight and ate the spinach and cheese soft pastry goodness for lunch, with a traditional lemon drink I had grown very fond of here in Turkey. Soon it was time to board the ferry home, back to my hostel for my last night.
Overall my experience in Turkey had been amazing. In 2 weeks I had seen the south, from Antalya to Olympos, and taken a sailing trip from Olympos to Fethiye. I had explored all of the coastline in between and spent some time relaxing and enjoying the quieter coastal towns. I had also been to Pammukale, a very interesting town with  iconic blue cascading pools. Istancat had been my final destination for Turkey and for my epic 9 week trip. It had been a magical city to visit, what they say is true. Istanbul is an amazing city, an overwhelming in sensation kind of place, but one you will never forget.
One more shot of a mosque. They were everywhere and really nice to go into and get some quiet time.

I hope you have enjoyed reading about my travels as I have galavanted the globe!
Please tell me where you think I should travel next?
Thanks for your support in my blog writing, I love to write and I love to entertain my readers and hopefully I have inspired some of you along the way to push out of your comfort zones and try something you have never done before. Why not book that dream holiday you have been wanting to do forever? Just do it! And do it sooner than later!
Have you ever seen a seagull yawn? Well me neither until I took this shot! Now we all have! :)

I post this last blog on Turkey feeling whimsical. It really makes me want to pack up and go again! I love travelling so much and find living a ‘normal’ life quite a challenge sometimes. I have been inspired by so many other wonderful travellers on line, especially from the Facebook page “Girls who travel”; to live a more adventurous life. Feel the fear and do it anyway. There are no rules, you can design any life you want, and then it is all about having the courage to get out there and make it happen. I wish you well in your journey and potential.
Lots of love from your fellow adventurer,
Anita xx

  1. It was a really great way to end my massive trip thats for sure. Nice just to lie in the sun and soak up some rays. I came home to wintry weather so it made it even more bittersweet! Or sweet bitter? lol! Thanks!
